Dear Junior Golfer
Welcome to our web site. My name is Keith Burke, and I am the Junior Organiser at Ogbourne. There is one other helper whose name is Mike Cowan. We are also very fortunate to have two professional teaching golfers who work with our juniors. The Junior Notice Board is in the stud bar and that is where you will find out what is going on. Below is our programme for the year 2011. You will see that there is a full programme of events for you to join in.
Once you have a handicap we hope that you will join in as many competitions as possible. To enter our Junior competitions you just sign up on the entry sheet on the notice board. For our Junior club competitions you need to come along half an hour before the event and have your entry fee of £1 ready. Once you have joined Ogbourne Downs then we can meet up with you and arrange to play with you, or arrange for other juniors to play with you. For those without a handicap our professionals will give you lessons. These are subsidised by the club. Once they think you are ready to go on the course we will arrange for you to play and put in 3 cards so that you can get an official handicap.
Our juniors also play in the Wiltshire Junior league in matches. There are six players in each team. Each year half the matches are played at Ogbourne and the other half at the opponents courses. At the end of each season there is a Finals Day. The two teams which finish top of their league play against each other and the winning team then go forward to represent Wiltshire at the South West of England Team Championships. The winners of that tournament then go through to the National Finals. 3 years ago Ogbourne got through to the National Finals. All the other teams play against each other on Finals Day as well.
Golf is a game which you can play for the whole of your life. At Ogbourne we want to give you the opportunity to learn to play, reach the highest standard that you can achieve, learn the rules and above all enjoy yourself whilst making friends with other golfers.
