A fabulous, challenging downland course set on the Marlborough Downs, a true gem.
It all started in the latter months of 1907: a group of 20 gentlemen met to discuss a golf club in the Swindon area. A committee was formed and its first meeting was held on the 10th October 1907 at 5:30pm in Goddard Arms Hotel in Swindon. By all accounts, that first meeting was ‘filled with both merriment and purpose”. The newly elected committee unanimously agreed that the Club be formed and it was to be called The North Wilts Golf Club.
Those present at that first meeting were:
FP Goddard
RB Bowly
RJ Beswick
WN Knox
SB Morrison
DCA Morrison
FW Marrilier
H Pease
EG Scare
C Smote
J Crate
T Saddler
AE Withy
Dr. S Rattray
Dr. C Lavery
Apologies for absence were recorded from Col. TCP Calley and Messrs. JPO Kirby, WG Little and SB Cole.
The meeting elected the first officers of the club.
President: Col. TCP Calley
Vice President: JP Goddard
